Verify your account and working context
Confirm the account, organization, conversation, and project references before entering or sharing information.
In this article
Working context contains several distinct elements. The account determines your identity, the current organization influences what you can access, the conversation retains previous exchanges, and your request may refer to a specific project. Verify each element separately.
Before entering a request
- Connected account
- Open the profile menu and confirm that it is the intended work account.
- Current organization
- Check the name displayed in the profile. A missing or different organization can change the projects, teams, and features you can see.
- Conversation
- Review the latest exchanges and start a new chat if the subject or confidentiality level changes.
- Project reference
- Confirm the project number and name in the official record before using them in a request.
Signs that the context may be incorrect
- The displayed organization is not the one you expected.
- A project or team you normally access is no longer visible.
- The response uses information from an older conversation subject.
- The project number, name, participants, or dates do not match the official record.
- The content appears intended for another organization, assignment, or recipient.
What to do when unsure
Stop entering, copying, or sharing new information in the affected conversation.
Verify the account and current organization in the profile menu.
Compare project references with the official record or system.
Start a new chat if the previous subject could influence the request.
If sensitive information has already been shared in the wrong context, immediately follow your organization’s security or incident procedure.
Quick check before sending
- I recognize the displayed account and organization.
- The title and latest messages match the current subject.
- The project, its references, and its documents are the correct versions.
- People or teams who can see the content are authorized.
- The request contains only necessary information.
- The expected result, recipient, and constraints are explicit.
Practical guidance
Recheck context after reopening a saved conversation or changing the active Office item. History may concern an earlier document or project even when the current pane is connected. Compare the latest request, displayed project and actual document or email before adding a follow-up or applying an operation.
Advanced tips
For work involving several projects, make the target explicit in each consequential request and verify the returned references. Do not rely on a previous message’s title as the sole context indicator when switching between organizations or documents.
