Generate a specification or specification section
Choose between a complete document and a MasterFormat section, then verify rules, references, and technical requirements.
In this article
- Complete specification
- Workflow that selects sections from project keywords, parameters, location, and disciplines, then assembles them.
- Specification section
- Focused workflow using an explicit MasterFormat section code and, where needed, a region code.
Verify project, disciplines, keywords, parameters, and location before generating a complete specification.
For one section, provide the MasterFormat code in its expected format and add a region only when the template supports it.
Specify language and, for the complete specification, title, revision, or issue purpose when known.
Wait for every section and the assembly to reach a terminal state.
Verify included and excluded sections, requirements, standards, cross-references, units, and project-specific conditions.
Practical guidance
A full specification and one section are different requests. For a section, identify the project and exact MasterFormat code, adding a supported region when relevant. For a complete specification, verify the project characteristics that drive section selection and state the intended language, revision and issue purpose.
Advanced tips
Compare the generated section list with the mandate before detailed editing. Review cross-references after any removal or replacement, and have applicable requirements checked through the organization’s technical review process; successful assembly is not proof of technical applicability.
